You may find that you are constantly living on adrenaline or that you are so wound-up that you find yourself feeling tired, fatigued and lacking energy at the start or by the end of each day. There are however several non-pharmaceutical treatment options that may help.

Treatment Options

Acupuncture, especially the auricular (ear) method works well to calm the body and the sometimes negative effects of the nervous system, bringing back balance to our tired and stressed body’s.

There are two sides to our nervous system; the sympathetic (fight or flight) system and the parasympathetic (rest and digest) system. Stimulation of the parasympathetic side using acupuncture will override the effects of the sympathetic side which has positive effects on mood and mental state. A simple and effective way of achieving this is by using special needles at specific points in the ear; this technique is called auricular acupuncture. The ear is densely innervated or supplied by both sides of the nervous system and we are therefore able to influence these systems using acupuncture.

The technique uses tiny, semi-permanent gold or silver plated needles applied to specific points in the ear to bring about changes in chemical or hormonal balance. This technique is widely and successfully used in the American military on many active servicemen and veterans who suffer from psychological disorders resulting from trauma.

The same technique is also used for rapid pain relief however the specific points used for this treatment are different.
